“The Four Freedoms inspire me to work towards a free and dignified existence. For everyone, everywhere in the world.”

Han has been King's Commissioner for the Province of Zeeland since 2013 and chairman of the Roosevelt Foundation. Before that, he was mayor of Bergen op Zoom and Noordwijkerhout, among others. From 1986 to 2000 he held various positions at the Ministry of the Interior & Kingdom Relations. Han also holds additional positions, including as chairman of the Prince Bernhard Cultuurfonds in Zeeland and a board member at the Ruyteriana Foundation.

The Zeeland roots of the Roosevelt family make the bond with Zeeland special. According to Han, the strength of the legacy of the Four Freedoms transcends the province. Politics is everything, but not everything is politics. The Four Freedoms are about the conditions for living in freedom, regardless of your religion, which political ideology you follow or which generation you are from. Han considers it particularly honorable to contribute to this. He finds it rewarding work, because he meets many inspiring people, people who sometimes at the risk of their own lives, without self-interest and are determined to work for their fellow man and the world in which they live.
