I have been committed to the protection of human rights for almost three decades. In 1995 I started at Amnesty International as an agency/editor, later became a publisher for Amnesty, and in 2009 switched to the Movies that Matter Foundation where I worked as a business director/director until January 2024. I also do board work. For example, in 2020 I was a founding board member of the Correspondent Foundation.

MtM shows films about urgent social themes at secondary schools and in cinemas throughout the country and during the annual Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague. In addition, MtM supports small-scale festivals in countries where human rights are under pressure. A wonderful festival component is 'Activist' with inspiring documentaries about special activists from all over the world. These human rights defenders come to The Hague, talk to the public and participate in an impact and networking program.

Every year you see how much international recognition can mean for activists. I see many parallels here with the Four Freedoms Awards, and I therefore find it honorable to contribute to the Roosevelt Foundation.
