Laszlo Tökes was born in 1952 in Romania. He is a pastor of the Reformed Church of Romania in Timisoara. Tökes organised protests against President Ceausescu's repression of the Hungarian minority. Attempts by the secret police to remove Tökes from office led to a general protest against the particularly harsh administration and its overthrow.
