The Four Freedoms Awards 2016 went to the following individuals and organizations:

• The International Four Freedoms Award went to German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel;
• The Freedom of Speech Award went to Syrian lawyer and advocate of freedom of expression Mr. Mazen Darwish;
• The Freedom of Religion Award went to Archbishop Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Imam Omar Kobine Layama and Pastor Nicolas Guérékoyame-Gbangou from the Central African Republic;
• The Freedom from Want Award went to Congolese gynecologist Dr. Denis Mukwege;
• The Freedom from Fear Award went to Human Rights Watch.
