On 16 May 2018, laureates Dieudonné Nzapalainga, Omar Kobine Layama and Nicolas Guérékoyame-Gbangou accepted the award for Freedom of Worship. The three clerics are working for peace in their country, the Central African Republic. The country is torn apart by war. Nzapalainga, Layama and Guérékoyame-Gbangou continue to engage with people of different faiths. In the process, their lives are sometimes in danger.

Together, they travel through the Central African Republic. They encourage peace-making, opening their churches and mosques as shelters for people on the run. The three clerics founded the Interfaith Peace Platform. This platform improves the chances for peace, and encourages talks between Muslims, Catholics and Protestants.
