Four Freedoms Meet-up 2023

Since 2020, the Roosevelt Foundation and Stichting Vrijheidscolleges have been organising the Four Freedoms Awards Meet-up. The third edition of the Meet-up will take place in 2023! On April 4, we invite about 400 young people to discuss the four freedoms!

Meet-up met Sviatlana

On April 4, 400 young people will meet up in Middelburg and discuss Roosevelt's Four Freedoms and what freedom means today. During the Four Freedoms Meet-up, organised by Stichting Vrijheidscolleges and the Roosevelt Foundation, Dutch celebrities Anniek Pheifer, Jeangu Macrooy, Nanoah Struik and Katrien van de Linde share their personal vision and stories about freedom with young people. Presenter Sander de Kramer will discuss various themes considering freedom with the four Freedom Speakers and 400 young people from all over Zeeland. Human rights, gender, climate and the history of slavery are central during this edition.

Anniek Pheifer discusses the seriousness of the climate crisis. Jeangu Macrooy tells his personal story about the impact that the Dutch slavery past still has on many people of colour today. Themes such as freedom of gender, identity and self-determination emerge from the story of Nanoah Struik. Katrien van de Linde defends human rights worldwide and shares her stories from her role as director of Human Rights Watch during an interview with moderator Sander de Kramer (both former laureates of the Four Freedoms Awards).

In action!

In the afternoon, all participants will make an immediate impact in collaboration with the Young Impact Foundation. They will undertake action for a theme that they consider important through lessons and freedom challenges. Examples of the challenges are a clean-up campaign in the neighbourhood, a collection for the Zeeland Clothing Bank and making colourful bags incorporating the themes of gender and diversity.
