Sir Brian Edward Urquhart was born in the United Kingdom in 1919. After the outbreak of World War II, Urquart enlisted in the British Army in 1939. For the British Army, he performed several tasks. These included planning air landings during Operation Overlord, the Normandy landings in 1944. In 1944, Urquhart was involved in the preparation of Operation Market Garden as an intelligence officer.

Urquhart was awarded the Order of the British Empire, allowing him to call himself Sir. He lived in the United States until his death in 2021.

After World War II, Urquhart worked as a diplomat on behalf of the United Kingdom. He also held several positions at the United Nations, including under-secretary-general for special political affairs.
