On 5 May dr. David van Reybrouck held the annual Van Randwijk lecture in the St. Jacobs Church in Vlissingen. The title of his lecture 'Democracy short of breath'. Democracy and Europe's future were the central themes of his speech. His message: Europe needs participation and more involvement of the people. His speech (in Dutch) can be viewed here. Dr. David Van Reybrouck (1971) is a Belgian scientist, cultural historian, archaeologist and one of the leading authors of his generation.
