With great sadness we received the news of the death of Kofi Annan. The passing away of the former Secretary General of the United Nations, great diplomat and advocate of human rights is a great loss to the world.
In 2004 Kofi Annan was awarded the International Four Freedoms Medal for his personal commitment to international cooperation and tolerance and for strengthening the United Nations as a guardian of worldwide peace and social justice. As Secretary General Annan played a determining role in revitalizing the UN-organization.
In his UN-report In Larger Freedom (2005) Kofi Annan reminded us that we will not enjoy development without security, we will not enjoy security without development and we will not enjoy either without respect for human rights. Freedom from want, freedom form fear and freedom to live in dignity go hand in hand.
Kofi Annan lives on in our memories. He was, is and remains a great example and inspiration to us all.
