Laureaat Freedom of Speech Award 2004

Lennart Meri Laureaat Freedom of Speech Award 2004

His books and films about isolated areas were beacons of hope that the Soviet occupation would not last and reminders of the strength and vitality of national identities. In 1992 he became President of the Republic of Estonia, bringing his country closer into Europe and NATO. For his creative efforts to preserve the history and language of Estonia and for his leadership in strengthening Estonia’s commitment to freedom.
